(Kyle, Tx) A-LINE DCRST defending series champion Rusty Young (88) missed the last race at Central Texas Speedway; Saturday night he returned in fine fashion winning the 25 lap main event. 25 teams entered the pit gate and battled hot, slick conditions that later turned cool and breezy adding to the challenge.
In the main event Butch Havelka (27) took the early lead and paced the field as the 3 wide action behind him thrilled the crowd on hand at CTS. Drew Simental (37) took command of the top spot on lap 10 and held that spot until a late race caution on lap 20 bunched the field together. That was the break Young and Gary Buchanan (99) needed as the pair made their way through the field and took the top 2 spots on the break and held on to finish 1-2. Simental held on to 3rd as Arden Vikre (72) and James Fitzgerald (6) rounded out the top 5. Jerry Young (18), Ryan Stoy (20), Havelka, Rodney Rodriguez (4) and Chris Silvas (85) rounded out the top 10.
Gary Buchanan picked up a $100.00 Hard Charger Award from Computer Age Automotive of Cedar Park. Rusty Young picked up $50.00 Race Winner award from MadRat Bevco of Houston. MadRat Bevco also presented $25.00 awards to heat race winners Jim Kritikos (5), Vikre, and Fitzgerald as well as an additional $25.00 Hard Luck Award to Dylan Budnik (25). Young Brothers Fire Protection of Helotes posted a $100.00 bonus for the first driver to record a 17.00 second lap on the 3/8 mile oval in the heat race or main, that bonus was collected by Fitzgerald.
With the victory by Young the point race tightens with one event remaining before the A-LINE DCRST Final 4, that event a return trip to the dirt at South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi on August 27th.
